Hi friends! It’s been a long while, but I’m happy to say the blog is back up and running. And since it was down for so long, I feel like I need to backtrack and blog some of the sessions I’ve done in the past few months just to catch up! So thank y’all for bearing with me. It’s been a busy summer and now that I’m heading back to my full-time job, I am getting back into a daily routine again. Weird how that happens, huh?
Anyway, I’m excited to share this engagement session with Hillary and Mitch because this girl is very dear to my heart. Hillary and I used to work together and ever since she found out I was a photographer she kept telling me I was going to shoot her wedding, even before she had the groom. Well, after she and Mitch made their engagement official, I got the text message. And of course, I accepted!! We took these pictures back in April and now that I’m looking through them again, I cannot WAIT for their wedding in November. If I know Hillary, her wedding is going to be a P A R T Y !
I’m not really sure if they can ever be serious when they’re together, haha!

Hey friends! Long time, no talk. Spring break is coming to a close and I’m super bummed. But I wanted to share some fun pictures from this past weekend’s trip to Charleston with my best gal pals to celebrate my 27th (oh Lord, I’m old) birthday! It was a great few days. We actually rented an AIR BNB which turned out to be the best decision ever. I highly recommend it. We got a full three bedroom house for the same, if not lesser price than a hotel, of which we very quickly made ourselves at home. We were close to downtown, close to the beach, and most importantly, comfortable! It was so much fun being able to share Charleston with my girls, and they even humored me a bit and played models while we explored downtown and visited the Angel Tree.
I’d also like to say that my friends are hilarious–I kept a log of some of my favorite funny quotes from the trip. So, I figured I’d share them with you!
“I just need a man who looks like he could dig a ditch with his bare hands.”
“He always says ‘This is the remix to ignition.’ But was there ever an original ignition?”
“The apostles were like ‘Jesus, we’re out of wine. We only have water.’ And Jesus was all, “I got you, fam’.”
“Narwhals are real? I thought they were mythical like unicorns!”
If you haven’t visited Charleston, you need to go! Pack your bags right now and hit the road, it’s only 6 hours from Richmond. You spend more time sitting in traffic in your commute to work in a month. Until you get there, here are some pictures to drool over the beauty of Charleston and of course my beautiful friends!
So at the beginning of the year I posted about my NEW YEAR, NEW GOALS. It’s been a little over a month and I just wanted to check in with how I’m doing. My power word for the year is FLOURISH. And in the last month I feel like I have flourished a little bit. I’ve been learning from my KJ All Access subscription. Which is amazing and if you’re an aspiring photographer, or even an established photographer, you should look into it because it never hurts to pick up on tips and tricks and keep learning as you grow.
My first wedding of 2018 is done and blogged and just about ready to be sent off to the bride and groom. I’ve gotten a few inquiries for more weddings and booked some family sessions for the coming year and I CANNOT WAIT for those!
My blogging and business goals could use a little work. But that’s what these check-ins are for.
But I did want to tell y’all about one more goal I added to my list for the year. My reading goal. I didn’t decide on this until after my original New Year’s post. I was finishing up a book I’d been reading before Christmas… okay, it was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and yes, it was my third time reading it. But when I’d finished, I was completely overwhelmed by how much I loved reading. Anyone who knows me knows I had my nose stuck in books when I was younger. I loved to read, especially during the summers when I had absolutely nothing else to do. And then I realized I didn’t read much anymore except for summers when I went on vacation.
So I made a plan for myself… thirty books this year. That averages about two books a month except for the summer months of June, July, and August where I add two more books because I’ll have more free time to do so. Maybe I’m overreaching, maybe I’ll go above and beyond my goal. Either way, I want to try and just read more. And so far I’ve read three books and am on track.
So anyway, I just wanted to give a small insight into how I’m doing on my goals. And also just a little recommendation–if you’re a woman trying to break out into business, or if you have an established business, or even if you don’t have any interest in having a business, you should read Girl Code by Cara Alwill Leyba (pictured above). It’s a short and easy read. I finished it in two days and highlighted a lot of important words of wisdom and advice. It doesn’t just help in your business life, but in your personal life as well and features some pretty inspiring women. I’m willing to lend my copy if anyone is interested!
